Take the Driver's Seat and Use the Ignition
To drive an RV in Nomad Drive, sit in the driver's position, start its engine, release the handbrake, and use the driving controls shown in your build. If it does not move, first distinguish a failed engine start from a running vehicle held by the brake. The on-screen driving panel helps you check the actual problem.
Community footage of the older demo shows this sequence after the starting van is assembled. The player takes the seat, starts the engine, releases the handbrake, and leaves the property. The same basic separation between starting and moving matters after transferring parts into a larger RV.
Follow the current interaction prompts when entering the vehicle or selecting a control. Aiming at the seat, door, and ignition can offer different actions; pressing a remembered key without checking the prompt can produce a different result than expected.
Use the HUD If the Vehicle Will Not Go
The official Nomad Drive patch notes describe a driving-actions panel with ignition warnings for a missing or broken engine, a dead battery, and no fuel. It also warns when the handbrake is engaged.
| Situation | First check |
|---|---|
| Engine will not start | Read the ignition warning and inspect the named component or fuel supply |
| Engine runs but vehicle stays still | Check the handbrake and current driving input |
| Behavior changed after a vehicle swap | Check that the required operating parts were attached to the new vehicle |
A component lying loose in the cabin is not the same as one attached at its working mount. Review the new RV before driving away, especially if you moved parts from your starting van.
Prepare the RV for the Next Stretch
In older demo playthroughs, players check fuel, radiator water, battery condition, and tires while traveling between stops. They carry spare parts and repair items rather than assuming the larger vehicle ends the maintenance loop.
Before departing, take a moment to:
- Check the displayed fuel and fluid levels.
- Confirm that the engine, battery, and other needed components are installed.
- Bring drinking water, food, and useful repairs.
- Secure the items you expect to carry through the available placement system.
- Turn off lights you no longer need when stopping or traveling in daylight.
The light check comes from demonstrated demo behavior: leaving lights on drains the battery. It is also a reason to inspect the actual electrical state when a vehicle that worked earlier will no longer start.
Let the Road and Your Build Guide the Trip
Follow the road and inspect the roadside locations you find. Community demonstrations encounter different stops and terrain, so they do not establish one universally correct first direction or a fixed drive time between locations.
The controls are configurable through Settings categories such as on-foot and driving, according to the developer's update notes. Use that menu to inspect the current assignment rather than relying on an unverified default-key list.
Some old demo reports describe unusual behavior, including an RV that ran without a radiator. That is a player's observation of a particular build, not a recommended way to operate the vehicle. The developer subsequently reworked cooling and other driving systems, and later replaced the original demo with a newer build before Early Access.
FAQ
Why is my RV still stationary after I start it?
Check whether the handbrake is engaged and whether you are using the current driving controls. If ignition never succeeds, read the separate engine, battery, or fuel warning.
Can I change the driving keys?
The official Settings system organizes remappable actions into categories including driving. Older demo players reported limits with some movement and steering remaps, so test your required input in your installed build.
Is a radiator optional because an old player drove without one?
That report describes unusual older-demo behavior. It does not establish a safe or intended shortcut, and it should not replace checking your vehicle's cooling system and current warnings.
