Read the Interaction Prompt for the Object in Front of You

Nomad Drive controls depend on what you are handling, whether you are seated, and which build you are playing. Use the contextual prompt for the current action, then check the driving HUD once you enter a vehicle. This avoids confusing picking up an item, placing it, attaching a component, and using a control.

Community footage of the older demo demonstrates separate interactions for taking objects, entering placement mode, attaching parts, and transferring fluid. In one recorded radiator fill, the displayed transfer interaction uses E. The same playthrough uses the mouse wheel to adjust an object's placement distance.

Treat those as demonstrated older-demo actions, not a complete default-key chart for every build. A prompt can require holding a control rather than tapping it, and the available action changes when your aim moves between a seat, a door, and an installed part.

Separate Driving Controls from Ignition Problems

Once seated in the driver's position, start the engine and release the handbrake before trying to drive. If the vehicle stays put, read its on-screen driving actions and warnings instead of repeatedly trying unrelated keys.

The official Nomad Drive update notes describe a driving-actions panel and specific ignition warnings:

What the HUD reportsWhat to inspect
Missing or broken engineWhether the engine is installed and usable
Dead batteryThe installed battery and an appropriate charging or replacement option
No fuelThe vehicle's fuel supply
Handbrake engagedThe brake state before attempting to move

The last warning matters even when the engine is already running. It is a movement check, whereas the first three explain why ignition can fail.

Find the Binding Category in Settings

The developer's June update introduced remappable keybindings in Settings, organized into categories such as on-foot actions and driving. It also introduced conflict detection to identify duplicate bindings.

Open Settings, find the category for the action you want to change, and inspect its current binding. Change that action through the available menu and check for a conflict before returning to play. Test on-foot and driving actions separately; changing an action in one category does not establish that a different action has changed too.

Older demo community reports describe trouble remapping movement and steering from WASD to arrow keys. Reports continued after the remapping announcement, including complaints about a binding prompt that stayed open. The existence of the settings feature therefore does not justify promising that every key or axis works correctly in every older build.

Check Controller Support Against Your Installed Version

The Steam listing collected on October 27, 2026 advertises full controller support, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers. Older Steam discussions, however, describe a demo without working support, and the developer's June response said support would be added. Those records describe different points in development.

Use the current store information and your installed build's options as the starting point. If your controller or a required remap does not work, record the version shown in the HUD and the action that fails when reporting it. A historical workaround suggested by another player is not proof of native support or a tested solution for your setup.

The developer replaced the original demo with a newer, reduced-content build before Early Access. That change is another reason to avoid applying an older video's complete control assumptions to the replacement demo.

FAQ

Is there a complete verified default-key list here?

No. The available material supports contextual interactions, the driving HUD, and categorized keybindings, but it does not establish a complete current default-key table.

Can I remap movement to the arrow keys?

The official menu supports remapping, but older demo players reported failures with movement and steering keys. Test the relevant category in your build instead of assuming those reports are resolved.

Does the controller badge prove the old demo supported controllers?

No. The October listing and the older demo complaints have different version contexts. They should not be treated as interchangeable evidence.
